CLASSES FOR AGES 11-12

Placement in classes will be determined by the instructor. Please contact the studio about proper class placement.

Ballet Foundations - This class focuses on both the older beginner and the older recreational dancer. It teaches basics and focuses on the foundations of ballet technique. If you're just starting or only want one ballet class a week this class is for you. 

​

Ballet 4 - This class transitions dancers from a junior level towards an intermediate level. The goals of this class or to know elemental vocabulary, including temps lié, pas de cheval, epaulemente, tomber, positions of the body: croisé, devant, derrière, ecarté, de face, en face, and all four Vaganova arabesque positions and port de bras 1-6. Students will also learn jumps and turns: pas de chat, pas de basque, glissé, jeté, assemblé, temps levé, grand jeté, Russian pas de chat, Chinese changement, double pirouette, double pique turns, petite allegro en tournant, balancé en tournant.

Ballet 5 - This is our low-intermediate level class. Students must know ballet vocabulary through Ballet 4 and must have their splits in all three positions. Adage: promenade, développé, fondu, promenade, arabesque penché in center. Turns: pirouettes en dedans and en dehors, pique en dedans and en dehors, fouetté, emboîté, increase pas de bourrée vocabulary. Jumps: Introduce beats into jeté and sauté, ballonné, ballotté, pas de basque, saut de basque, tour jeté, assemblé en tournant, grand jeté, saut de chat, petite allegro changing directions, introduce brisé, and variations.

Students at this level should be taking two ballet classes a week as well as Beginning Pointe.

Ballet 6 - This is our high intermediate level. Dancers must be able to listen and repeat steps without needing any demonstration, know ballet vocabulary through Ballet 5, and have splits. We introduce technically difficult steps: temps de cuisse, temps de flèche, rond versé, brise volé, faille assemblé, sissonne, fermée, jeté entrelacé, gargouillade, grand jeté en tournant. Pirouettes en dedans and en dehors in several positions: raccourci, a la second, attitude devant, attitude derrière, arabesque, tear drop, fouetté turns and jumps. Increase difficulty for: pointe work, grand allegro, and adage. Students at this level should be taking three ballet classes a week including Pointe.

Contemporary & Lyrical I- This class borrows techniques from many modern dance techniques as well as ballet and jazz. Dancers are encouraged to be expressive, and spatially aware of their bodies, using their body weight for floor work, leaps, and turns.

Modern - Our modern class teaches this expressive dance form through the use of multiple techniques, and focuses on teaching students the skill of improvisation. This class is open to Ballet Level 5 and up, age 12 and up.

Tap 3 - This is our advanced-level tap class. Students will build upon skills learned in Tap 2.

Jazz 1 - This class is an introduction to Jazz with basic warm-ups and technique exercises, jazz walks, isolations, jumps, and turns. Originating from African dance, today’s Jazz is a uniquely American form of dance that many of us associate with Broadway Musicals.

​

Hip Hop 2 - This class builds upon the foundation taught in level one, with increasing difficulty. No experience is necessary for this class, though! This class will move to the beat of current, clean pop songs. This is a 45-minute class.
