Alice in Wonderland
Julia's Academy of Dance Recital 2023

Join us this year as we journey through Wonderland. Each dancer at our studio will have the opportunity to be in this year's show. We encourage all our dancers to participate. Recital gives your little one a chance to not only show you all they've learned, but also allows them an opportunity to perform. The show will be performed on the big stage at SouthMoore high school. Dances will be practiced in class. We encourage you to invite family and friends to watch the show!

Below you will find lots of information on the when's, where's, and what's of recital season.

Please read carefully and refer back to this information as needed.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to call or email
us at the front desk- we are here to help you!

PROPER UNDERGARMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS

NUDE LEOTARD- female students

A nude leotard is worn under all costumes.

We do not have gender-separated dressing rooms and a nude leotard provides coverage and modesty for your student. If students only have one dance and arrive and leave in their costumes they will not need a nude leotard.

COMPRESSION SHORTS- male students

Bike shorts/compression shorts must be worn under their costume and be kept on as they change.

All male dancers over the age of 8 should also be wearing a dance belt.

Home Practice

HOME PRACTICE

Help your child to grow in confidence by encouraging them to practice their dance at home.

Home practice can help cement the choreography in your child’s mind.

When a student practices on their own they learn to recall the choreography without looking to others for cues.

Also, practicing at home can help to relieve performance anxiety.

Follow this link to search for your child's practice videos:

Tickets

Volunteers

We need volunteers! We could never make these beautiful productions happen without the help of all of you! We need volunteers for many positions both before/after the show and during the show. Our largest need is parents to be backstage with dancers. Volunteers who are backstage will get to see their dancers from the side of the stage. Backstage volunteers will also receive free tickets for their family to see the show. Please let us know at the front desk if you'd like to volunteer.

TICKET SALES

Tickets for the recital will be available through TUTUTIX.  Visit their website Here to get yours. Everyone 3 and older will need a ticket. Tickets will be available online now through May 10th. After that tickets must be purchased in person either at the front desk beginning May 15th or at the door.

Tickets at the door will be $12 each and cash only. Dancers who are performing do not need tickets.

What to Pack

Costumes

All dancers should have tried on their costumes. If you haven't please let your teacher know. Costumes will stay at the studio until the full run through. They will go home with their dancers after the full run through. You will be responsible for bringing their costumes to the dress rehearsal. Costumes will stay at the venue after dress rehearsal then come home with you after the show. If your dancer is not going to have a nude leotard and only has ONE dance they can take their costume home after dress rehearsal so they can wear it to the show the next day.

WHAT TO PACK FOR REHEARSAL AND RECITAL
Please ensure that your student’s name is on ALL of their belongings, especially their shoes!

Tights(pack an extra pair)

Nude Leotard

Dance Shoes

Water in a no-spill bottle, preferably with a straw

Lipstick for touch ups (please instruct your children NOT to apply it themselves!)

Extra hairpins

Hairbrush

Snacks: no chocolate or chips, nothing sticky or greasy. Carrot sticks, grapes, string cheese,

turkey roll-ups, goldfish crackers, etc... all make great snacks.

HAIR

Hair should be done in a low ballet bun. (No braids)

Lead dancers should ask the front desk about hair

Hair

The bun itself should be covered with an invisible hair net and secured with hair pins. Hairspray is a must!

If hair is too short for this style then it needs to be braided then held back using gel and bobby pins. Males should have their hair gelled and secured out of their faces.

MAKEUP

All students will need stage makeup. Bright stage lighting washes out faces and makes them look dull.

We are not trying to make the students look older, just make their lovely faces visible to the audience!

Your child will need to wear:

Foundation

Powder

Blush

Contour

Neutral shade of eyeshadow

Black eyeliner- not too heavy

False Eyelashes

Medium Pink Lipstick

Please use a long-wearing lipstick, such as Maybelline Superstay.

The color should complement your child's skin tone.

Think of rich rosy color, not fuchsia or hot pink.

Here is a video you can watch for a little help, if needed:
